World Cities Day is observed annually on 31 October as the culmination of Urban October. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2013, the observance promotes international cooperation in addressing both the opportunities and challenges associated with urbanization while encouraging cities to share innovative solutions for sustainable development.

The 2026 observance focuses on "Regenerating the City: Adequate Housing for All," emphasizing the role of urban regeneration in improving neighbourhoods, expanding access to adequate housing and revitalizing informal settlements. The theme highlights the importance of integrating housing, infrastructure, public spaces, climate resilience and social inclusion into comprehensive area-based regeneration strategies.
